Green Beans Almondine

This simple recipe works with almost any green vegetable. Be sure to cook the almonds just until fragrant; nuts can burn very quickly.
2 pounds green beans
4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) butter
3 tablespoons sliced almonds
salt and pepper
Trim beans on the diagonal. Steam until crisp-tender, about 7-9 minutes.
In a large skillet over medium heat melt butter with almonds. Cook 1 to 2 minutes until butter is browned and almonds are fragrant. Add green beans to skillet and toss to coat. Season to taste.
