Williamsburg Orange Cake

This rich orange cake laced with golden raisins, and nuts, and topped with tangy orange frosting is perfect for a special occasion.
2-3/4 cups cake flour or 2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour.
1-1/2 cups sugar
1-1/2 tsp. soda
3/4 tsp. salt
1-1/2 cups buttermilk
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/4 cup shortening
3 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp orange extract
1 cup golden raisins, cut up
1/2 cup finely chopped nuts
1 tbl. orange peel
Preheat oven to 350 dergrees. Grease and flour two 9 inch or three 8 inch round cake pans.
Measure all ingredients into large mixer bowl. Blend until moistened on low speed of an electric mixer. Beat 3-4 minutes on high speed, scraping bowl occasionally.
Pour batter into prepared pans. Bake 30-35 minutes, or until cake tests done in the center.
Frosting:
1/2 cup soft butter
4-1/2 cups powdered sugar
3-4 tbl. orange flavored liqueur, or orange juice
2 tsp. grated orange peel
Blend butter and sugar. Stir in liqueur and orange peel. Beat until smooth
