Have all ingredients at room temperature:
2-1/4 cups cake flour
1-1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. soda
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. salt
1-1/2 cups sugar
3/4 cup butter
3 eggs, separated
1 cup yogurt
Sift cake flour,baking powder,soda, nutmeg, cinnamon,cloves, and salt twice. Sift the sugar. Add the butter and cream until very light. Beat in the 3 egg yolks.
Add the sifted ingredients to the butter mixture in 3 parts, alternating in thirds with 1 cup yogurt. Stir the batter after each addition until smooth.
Whip the egg whites until stiff peaks form. Fold them lightly into the cake batter.
Bake in a greased tube pan for 1 hour, or until wooden pick inserted comes out clean.
