A basic yellow cake introduced by Betty Crocker in the 70's
2 cups flour
1-1/2 cups sugar
3-1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup milk
1 tsp. vanilla
3 eggs
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a 13 by 9 inch pan, or two 8 inch round pans.
Measure all ingredients into large bowl. Blend 1/2 minute on low speed, scraping bowl constantly. Beat 3 minutes on high speed.
Bake in the larger pan for 40-45 minutes, layers 30-35 minutes or until wooden pick inserted into cakes comes out clean.
