1/2 cup butter
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 cups flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp.salt
2 tsp.cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. allspice
1/4 tsp.cloves
3/4 cup milk
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream butter and sugar till fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla. Add baking powder, salt and spices. Add milk to butter mixture in 2 parts alternately with flour. Begin and end with flour.
Spread batter into a greased 8 inch square pan. Bake for 35-40 minutes.
Recipe may be doubled.
