Old Fashioned Banana Cake

Have all ingredients at room temperature:
2-1/2 cups cake flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1-1/2 cups sifted sugar
1/2 cup butter
2 eggs
1 cup mashed banana
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 cup yogurt or buttermilk
Sift before measuring the cake flour. Resift with baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Sift the sugar, cream the sugar with the butter until very light and fluffy. Beat the eggs in one at a time. Combine the mashed banana with the vanilla and yogurt or buttermilk. Add the flour mixture to the butter mixture in 3 parts, alternating with thirds of the banana mixture. Stir the batter after each addition until smooth.
Bake in two greased 9 inch layer cake pans for about 30 minutes.
Frost with a buttercream frosting.
