Macaroon Cake

2 cups sifted flour
1-1/4 cups sugar
1-1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. soda
1 cup buttermilk, or sour milk
1/2 cup butter
3 eggs
3 oz. melted chocolate, unsweetened
1 tsp. vanilla
Grease and flour bottom of a 13 by 9 inch pan. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Combine all ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Beat at medium speed for 3-4 minutes. Pour batter into prepared pan. Spoon macaroon topping over cake batter. Bake for35-40 minutes.
MACAROON TOPPING:
Blend together
one 15 oz. can sweetened condensed milk
2-1/3 cups flaked coconut
1/2 tsp. almond extract
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 cup chopped pecans
