Grandma's Molasses Cake

2 cups sifted flour
2 tsps. baking powder
1 tsp. allspice
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
2/3 cup milk
1 tsp. black walnut flavoring
3 tbl. molasses

Sift together dry ingredients. Blend shortening and sugar, cream til fluffy. Add the eggs, beat 2 minutes.
Combine milk and walnut flavoring; add alternately with the dry ingredients to creamed mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Blend thoroughly after each addition. Add molasses , beat well.
Pour batter into one 9 by 5 by 3 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 60 minutes or until cake tests done in the middle when wooden pick inserted in cake comes out dry.

MOLASSES FROSTING:
3 tablespoons butter melted, 1 tablespoon molasses, 3 cups powdered sugar, 3 tablespoons milk. Beat until smooth.

May sprinkle top of frosted cake with chopped nuts.
