Deep Dark Devil's Food Cake

2 cups sifted cake flour
2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
2/3 cup vegetable shortening
1-1/3 cups sugar
3 large eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
1-1/4 cups water
Sift flour, cocoa, baking powder,baking soda, and salt.
Beat shortening, sugar,eggs,and vanilla in a large bowl with electric mixer at high speed until light and fluffy.
Beat in flour mixture alternately with water on low speed. Do not overbeat. Pour into two greased 9 inch round cake pans.
Bake in a 350 degree oven for 40 minutes or until centers spring back when lightly pressed with fingertip.
Cool in pans for 10 minutes. Remove from pans; cool completely.
Frost with Fluffy 7 minute Frosting.
1-1/2 cups sugar
1/4 cup water
2 egg whites
2 tbl. light corn syrup
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
Combine syrup, sugar, egg whites, corn syrup, and salt in top of double boiler. Beat mixture until well blended.
Place over simmering water; cook beating constantly at high speed with electric mixer about 7 minutes, or until mixture triples in volume and holds firm peaks. Remove from heat; beat in vanilla. Spread on cooled cake.
Melt 1 square unsweetened chocolate and 1 tabls. butter, in a microwave safe dish. Drizzle over top of cake, letting mixture drip down sides of cake.
