Chocolate Fudge Cake

At the time of the Boston Tea Party, chocolate became a real part of American tradition. It was a popular drink,as a substitute for boycotted tea, and was quickly seen in cakes, cookies, and pies.
3 squares unsweetened chocolate
2-1/4 cups sifted cake flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 cup butter or margarine
2-1/4 cups brown sugar
3 eggs
1-1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 cup sour cream
1 cup boiling water
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour two 9 inch cake pans.
Melt chocolate over hot water, or in microwave. Sift flour, baking soda and salt. Beat butter until soft, add brown sugar and eggs and beat until fluffy. Beat in vanilla and cooled chocolate.
Stir in dry ingredients alternately with sour cream, beating well. Stir in boiling water.
Pour into prepared pans. Bake for approximately 25 minutes or until it tests done.
