Apricot Upside Down Cake

1 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter, or margarine
3 eggs
2 cups flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup chopped apricots
0ne large can apricot halves
maraschino cherries

Melt 1/2 cup butter in a 13 by 9 inch pan. Sprinkle 1 cup brown sugar evenly over melted butter. Place a layer of the apricots on the brown sugar mixture, cut side up. Place a maraschino cherry in the center of each apricot.

Cream together sugar and butter. Add eggs, mix thoroughly. Sift flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and cinnamon. Add chopped apricots and dry ingredients alternately to egg mixture, beating after each addition. Add vanilla, and mix til blended. Pour batter over apricot slices in pan.
Bake in a 350 degree oven for about 35-40 minutes or until cake tester inserted in cake comes out clean.
