Wonderful Old-Fashioned Buttermilk Pie

Unbaked 9 inch pie shell
2/3 cup sugar
3 tbl. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
3 egg yolks
2 tsp. vanilla
2 cups buttermilk
1/4 cup melted butter
3 egg whites

Preheat oven to 425 degrees. With a fork, blend sugar, flour and salt. Stir in yolks (slightly beaten), vanilla, buttermilk and butter.
Beat whites until stiff but not dry. Slowly beat in the yolk mixture. Turn into pie shell.
Bake for 10 minutes. Turn oven down to 325 degrees for 30 minutes, or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
