1 cup butter
1-1/2 cups sugar
4 eggs
1 teaspoon almond extract
2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
21 ounces cherry pie filling
1/4 cup powdered sugar
1 cup cream, whipped
1/3 cup powdered sugar
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar. Add eggs and beat until light and fluffy. Stir in almond extract. Sift in flour and baking powder and mix until smooth.
Butter a 13" x 9" baking dish. Pour the mixture into the pan then spoon cherry pie filling into the cake in spots, spacing four spoonfuls evenly in each direction. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes, or until the center is set. The filling will sink into the cake while baking. Place bottom side up, on a serving plate then dust with powdered sugar. Spoon cream whipped to stiff peaks with powdered sugar on top.
