Vanilla Refrigerator Cookies

1-1/2 cups sifted flour
1/2 tsp. soda
3/4 tsp. salt
1/2 cup soft shortening
1 cup sugar
1 egg
2-1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/3 cup chopped nuts
Sift flour, soda and salt together. Mix shortening, sugar, egg and vanilla. Beat until light and fluffy. Add flour mixture and nuts. Turn dough onto waxed paper, forming a long roll about 2 inches in diameter. Refrigerate for 2 hours or until firm. Slice 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick. Place on ungreased cookie sheets.
Bake at 375* for 10 minutes or until done.
