Spicy Banana Bars

1 cup sifted flour
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. allspice
1/4 cup vegetable shortening
1/3 cup mashed ripe banana
1 egg
1/4 cup milk
1/3 cup chopped pecans
Sift together the dry ingredients. Combine the vegetable shortening and the ripe banana; beat hard for about 2 minutes.
Add the egg and beat for 1 minute. Add the dry ingredients alternately with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Blend thoroughly after each addition. (If using an electric mixer; use low speed.) Stir in the pecans. Spread in a well greased and lightly floured 13 by 9 inch pan.
Bake at 350* for 22-25 minutes.
Frosting:
2 tbl. melted butter
1 tbl. hot water
2 tsp. lemon juice
1 cup powdered sugar
Combine the butter, hot water and lemon juice. Blend in the powdered sugar. Thin with the additional hot water a few drops at a time if necessary.
