Peanut Butter Chocolate Kisses

1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 egg
2 tbl. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1-3/4 cup flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 cup sugar
48 chocolate kisses
Cream the shortening and peanut butter. Gradually add the sugars, beating until light and fluffy. Add the egg, milk and vanilla; beat well. Combine the flour, soda and salt; add to the creamed mixture. Roll the dough into 1 inch balls; the roll in 1/4 cup sugar. Place balls 2 inches apart on a lightly greased cookie sheet.
Bake at 375* for 8 minutes. Remove from the oven. Press a chocolate candy kiss into the center of each cookie. Return to the oven for an additional 2 minutes or until lightly browned.
