3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
1-3/4 cups flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/3 cup chopped pecans
1 tsp. instant coffee
1 oz. (1 square) unsweetened chocolate, melted
In a large bowl, combine the first 4 ingredients; blend well. Stir in flour, baking powder and salt; blend well. Divide dough in half. Blend pecans and coffee into 1/2 of dough. Add chocolate to remaining dough. Chill for easier handling.
Roll light dough on waxed paper to 16 by 8 inch rectangle. Repeat with chcolate dough. Place light dough on top of chocolate dough. Roll up jelly roll fashion, starting with 16 inch side. Wrap roll in wax paper;chill until firm, about 2 hours.
Heat oven to 350*. Cut dough into 1/4 inch slices. Place 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake for 9-12 minutes.
