1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup hot water
1/2 cup molasses
1/4 cup shortening
1 egg
2 cups flour
1 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cloves
Frosting:
2 cups powdered sugar
2 tbl. butter, softened
2-3 tbl. milk
1/2 tsp. vanilla
Preheat oven to 375*. Grease cookie sheets.
In a large bowl combine first 5 ingredeients; blend well. Stir in remaining ingredients. Drop by teaspoonsful, 2 inches apart onto cookie sheet.
Bake for 10-15 minutes. or until golden brown.
Immediately remove from cookie sheet; cool.
Frosting:
Combine the powdered sugar, butter, milk and vanilla. Beat until fluffy. Frost cooled cookies.
