1 cup packed brown sugar
1-1/4 cups water
1/3 cup shortening
2 cups raisins
2 cups flour
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cloves
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 cup chopped nuts
Preheat oven to 350*.
Mix brown sugar, water, shortening and raisins in a saucepan and bring to a boil; remove from the heat and cool. Sift the flour; blend dry ingredients; stir into cooled mixture. Mix in nuts. Spread dough evenly in a greased 13 by 9 inch pan. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until no imprint remains when touched lightly with a finger. Cool and cut into bars.
