Chocolate Almond Twinkles

1 cup sifted flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 cup vegetable shortening
2/3 cup sugar
2 egg whites
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. almond extract
1/2 cup coconut
Sift the flour, baking powder and salt together. Cream the shortening and sugar together well. Blend in the egg whites, vanilla and almond extract; beat well. Add the coconut, finely chopped, and the dry ingredients. Mix thoroughly.
Drop by rounded teaspoonsful onto a greased baking sheet. Bake at 375* for 10-12 minutes.
Chocolate Almond Frosting:
1 square (1 oz.) chocolate
2 tbl. cream
1 cup sifted powdered sugar
2 egg yolks
1/4 tsp. almond extract
Melt the chocolate and cream over hot water or in a microwave. Remove from heat. Stir until smooth. Immediately add the powdered sugar, egg yolks and almond extract. Blend well. Spread on the tops of the cookies. May top with an almond if desired.
