Cherry Coconut Bars

2 cups flour
1 cup shortening
6 tbl. powdered sugar
4 eggs, slightly beaten
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. vanilla
1 cup coconut
1 cup Maraschino cherries, chopped
Combine flour, shortening and powdered sugar. Mix well and pat firmly into the bottom of an ungreased 9 by 13 inch pan.
Bake at 350* for 20-25 minutes. Do not brown.
While pastry is baking, combine beaten eggs and sugar. Add flour, baking powder, salt, vanilla, coconut and cherries, Spread mixture over the top of baked pastry.
Bake at 350* for about 25 minutes.
Cut into bars.
