Valentine Placemats (Craft

Print Version |  Email To A Friend

Materials: 13 1/2' X 17 1/2" Valentine fabric or red print calico and red & white gingham (different fabrics for each side of placemats); 1" wide, white eyelet ruffle.

Note: To make 6 placemats, you will need 1 1/8 yds. each of red and white checked gingham and red print calico. You will also need 8 yds of of white eyelet ruffling.

1. Cut 2 heart shapes (size of placemats desired) from fabric pieces.

2. Place the 2 right sides of heart shaped fabric pieces together and machine-stitch around the edge, with a strip of 1" wide white eyelet ruffling stitched into the seam between the two layers of fabric.

3. Leave a small opening at the top of the heart (large enough to turn right side out), and turn the place mat to the right side.

4. Press the raw edges of the opening to the inside so they are not visible.

5. You may sew the opening closed but if you use this for a Valentine's Day festive event you can allow the guests to fill the opening of their placemats with fiberfill and sew them closed. This will give them a lovely little pillow reminder of the event to take home.
