3/4 cup butter, softened*
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1-3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
4 (1-ounce) squares unsweetened baking chocolate, melted, cooled slightly
Topping Ingredients:
1/2 cup chocolate decors or sugar
48 milk chocolate candy kisses
Combine butter, 1/2 cup sugar and brown sugar in large bowl. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy. Add egg and vanilla; continue beating until well mixed. Reduce speed to low; add flour, baking soda and salt. Beat until well mixed.
Divide dough in half; wrap in plastic food wrap. Refrigerate until firm (about 2 hours).
Heat oven to 375°F. Roll teaspoonfuls of dough into 1-inch balls. Place 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheets. Press ball to about 1/8 inch with glass dipped in sugar; sprinkle with chocolate decors. Bake for 7 to 9 minutes or until set and cookies just begin to crack. Immediately press 1 chocolate kiss in center of each cookie. Cool 1 minute; remove from cookie sheets. Cool completely.
Makes 4 dozen cookies.
