Wet Bottom Shoo-Fly Pie

1 pie crust
2 cups flour
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup Crisco
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup molasses or dark Karo syrup
1 cup water
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 egg, beaten
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Mix flour, sugar, Crisco and salt until mixture is crumbly.

In a separate bowl, mix remaining ingredients. Stir half of the crumb mixture into the liquid mixture. Line a pie plate with crust. Pour mixture into pie crust and sprinkle remaining crumbs on top. Bake for 15 minutes, then reduce oven temperature to 300 degrees F and bake for 30 minutes.
