Maple Syrup Crackel Top Cookies

1 c. shortening or margarine
1 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1 c. maple syrup
Sugar for rolling
4 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
Mix shortening, sugar, egg, syrup and vanilla. Add flour, baking powder and salt. Chill. Roll into balls. Dip into sugar. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.
